Frequent nose bleedsA nose bleed itself is nothing to get too alarmed about, but if your suffering from frequent nose bleeds then there is probably something that needs some medical attention. The nose bleeds may be as a direct consequence to a previous injury. Maybe a blow to the head or face, which you may believe has cleared up, could actually have caused more damage than first suspected and could be the root of the bleeds. There is also the obvious and worrying possibility of something developing inside the nose that at the very least needs checking out, if only to put the mind at rest. Frequent nose bleeds shouldn’t happen, so there is something not quite right and a visit to the doctor should be able to ascertain why, or at least start the process of establishing a cause. A biopsy will most probably be taken and surgery may be recommended in some cases, if only to cauterise a blood vessel, which maybe malformed from birth. If there is no obvious blood vessel in the front of the nose, the bleeds will most probably be coming from the back and is best dealt by an ear, nose and throat specialist. It has to be remembered that the dividing wall at the front of the nose - the nasal septum - consists of thin, flat cartilage and bone, separating the nostrils and nose into its two sides. The septum easily bleeds when damaged when knocked, scratched or even from nose blowing, and any one of these can be a contributory factor. | Salicylates and nose bleeds
